Albany -- Not only have state leaders been unable to agree on a new budget nearly three months after it was due, but Monday they couldn't even agree on legislation to keep paying state bills in the meantime.
The state's top Democrat hinted his house might not pass a six-week emergency spending bill Gov. George Pataki proposed to keep state government running until Aug. 2.
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, D-Manhattan, sought a shorter extender as a way to force continued budget negotiations, and the Assembly passed a resolution calling on Pataki to submit a one-week extender.
