ABC executives, take note: Maybe a Stephen King thriller works better as a short-run event than as a weekly series.
"Salem's Lot," TNT's adaptation of the King story about vampires in a small Maine town, drew close to 6 million viewers in its premiere Sunday night (June 20) _ better than ABC's and Fox's averages for the same time period and better than anything else on cable last week.
The four-hour miniseries, which stars Rob Lowe, Donald Sutherland and Andre Braugher, also performed better than all but the first few episodes of "Kingdom Hospital," the King-written series ABC aired this spring and will burn off beginning Thursday (June 24).
