As children's footwear retailers prepare for upcoming trade shows, most admit that the country's current economic state will force them to rethink buying strategies for the back-to-school selling season. Consequently, most retailers say they'll cuft costs by sticking to basic styling, purchasing lower- to moderate-priced footwear.
"Retailers cefrtainly took a beating this past holiday season," says Ike Wilford, associate buyer for Whol Shoe Company's men's and children's division.
