Internationally recognized feminist theorist and creative writer, Gloria Evangelina Anzaldua, died on May 15 from diabetes-related complications. She was 61 years old.
Anzaldua was a versatile writer, and published theoretical essays, poetry, short stories, autobiographical narratives, interviews, children books and anthologies. Anzaldua helped make the literature of women of color visible in the U.S. and has been credited with redefining queer, female and Chicana identities, and with developing an inclusionary feminist movement.
