The Israeli government has made a mistake in its decision to withdraw from further participation in the proceedings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning the security barrier currently being constructed in parts of the West Bank. Israel and numerous other States, including Australia, have made written submissions to the ICJ denying that the Court has jurisdiction to deal with what they say is essentially a political, not a legal issue.
