Jan. 28--TOKYO -- Supermarket chain operator Aeon Co. has suspended the sale of Chinese chicken meat at its outlets following reports of a bird flu outbreak in China, company officials said Wednesday.

The Chinese chicken meat represents less than 1 percent of Aeon's total chicken meat sales, the officials said.

Cooked Chinese chicken meat used in prepared food will continue to be sold, they said.
