It's easy to be slightly terrified of Martin Amis.
After all, hasn't the British author earned a rather frightening reputation on either side of the Atlantic for both his literary infighting and wildly tumultuous personal life?
Truth be told, however, the bad boy of English letters wasn't the least bit scary when the P-I reached him at his London home last week to discuss his new novel, "House of Meetings" (Knopf, 242 pages, $23), a tale of love and betrayal in a Russian gulag that's being hailed as his best novel in a decade.
