Willie Mays IS once again basking in the reflected glow of a home run race, which is as it should be. Barry Bonds is chasing Mays for third place on the career home run list. It's only fitting they are godfather and godson.
It's difficult to imagine a more mutually beneficial relationship.
Roger Maris' finest hour as baseball player came 13 years after his death. What Maris accomplished in 1961 when he broke Babe Ruth's single-season home run record wasn't fully appreciated until Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa were stalking Maris' record 37 years later.
