Feb. 15--A nationwide trade group maintains that convenience stores need to be able to sell beer to remain competitive. Others say this isn't so.
The latter fear that granting a license to sell containers of beer at a Sheetz being constructed in Altoona will open the door for sales at other convenience stores throughout the state.
If granted, this would be the first convenience store in Pennsylvania to sell beer. The license has been applied for by Ohio Springs Inc., a Sheetz subsidiary that oversees beer sales in four of its stores that sell beer in other states.
