The Tuesday and Wednesday installments of Fox's "American Idol" were the No. 1 and No. 2 programs, respectively, for the 2003-04 TV season, averaging more than 25 million viewers per night.
It's an achievement of program content, to be sure, but anyone who watched can surely see the success of the marketing campaign at work, particularly in the integration of seven official sponsors into the fabric of the show.
