Looking back now, it seems Warner Bros.' marketing department must have had an easy job-how could anyone think Ellen DeGeneres wouldn't succeed in the daytime talk market? But as Howard Borim, senior VP at Warner production arm Telepictures Productions, pointed out, "The fields are littered" with the bodies of affable comedians who thought they could transition to daytime chat.
