2004 JUN 30 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Although difficult, diagnosing pediatric brain tumors has improved due to advances in imaging, researchers say.
"Primary brain tumors are the most common solid neoplasms of childhood," scientists in the United States report.
"The diagnosis of brain tumors in the general pediatric population remains challenging," wrote C.O. Maher and colleagues, Mayo Clinic, Department of Neurosurgery.
The researchers concluded: "Nevertheless, it is clear that refinements in imaging, surgical technique, and adjunctive therapies have led to longer survival and an improving quality of life in children with brain tumors."
