GUIDANCE on the maximum amount of oily fish people should be eating was issued by the UK's food watchdog yesterday.

The recommendaons from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) set limits at which the health benefits of consuming oily fish begin to outweigh the possible risks.

Until now the only advice from the FSA was that adults should eat at least two portions of fish a week,of which one should be an oily species -such as salmon, trout,fresh tuna, herring,mackerel and sardines.

That remains unchanged but the watchdog has now added upper limits for the first time following a report from a group of experts.
