Apr. 2--SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A bill that would legalize gay marriage in California is in limbo as some Democrats worry about the wisdom of pushing it in an election year.

The Democratic leadership insists proposed legislation by San Francisco Assemblyman Mark Leno will eventually have a public hearing. But the lack of action so far, despite prodding by gay-rights activists, suggests the bill may not come up for a vote this session.
