Apr. 1--MONROVIA, Calif. -- The city is lobbying for $3 million in federal funds to relocate a granary operating along a rail line to make way for the future transit center and potentially trim an estimated $16 million from the Gold Line extension cost.
The granary, owned by Azteca Milling, receives shipments of corn via train every week. The corn is packaged and distributed to more than 100 tortilla factories in Southern California.
Its eight gleaming silos are stationed next to the city's historic train depot, which is to be restored and turned into a transit center.
