Mar. 18--Ecology & Environment keeps finding that business is better without a shrimp farm.
The Lancaster-based environmental services firm's profits more than doubled during the second quarter as earnings from its consulting business improved and the drain from its now-closed venture into shrimp farming was vastly reduced.
E&E's profits grew to $966,000, or 24 cents per share, from $431,000, or 11 cents per share, a year ago, when the company's Costa Rican shrimp farm ran up a $446,000 loss. Revenues slipped by 2 percent from $21 million during the quarter that ended in January from $21.4 million a year ago.
