Mar. 12--The Tennessee Valley Authority is expected to award the biggest rail contract in its 71-year history next week to help bring more low-sulfur coal from Wyoming, Utah and Colorado to TVA's fossil plants.
TVA directors are scheduled Tuesday to approve a $2.6 billion contract to the Omaha, Neb.-based Union Pacific Railroad. TVA spokesman Gil Francis said the 10-year pact with the nation's biggest railroad involves the transport of more than 10 million tons of low-sulfur coal a year across the country.
