Mar. 6--Corn starch for low-carb diets, machinery, auto parts and chemicals streamed out of Indiana plants and onto world markets last year as the state's export volume rose a healthy 9.9 percent.
Even though Indiana has fretted for months about lost manufacturing jobs, exporters sparkled in the fourth quarter, another sign of life stirring in the state's vital factory economy.
Automotive items bound for Canadian and Mexican plants lead the way along with chemical and pharmaceutical exports to Europe, said Larry Davidson, professor of business economics and public policy at Indiana University in Bloomington.
