Mar. 9--First Lady Laura Bush joined the battle over her husband's campaign ads yesterday, defending the use of graphic 9/11 images as a reelection tool.
"I'm struck by the suggestion that we should ignore 9/11 and not mention it," Bush told reporters in New Orleans. "I mean, it was really the defining moment for all of us in our lives.
"Most people who are our age or younger, it was really the only happening in the United States in our whole history that was like that," she added.
The First Lady also took a polite nudge at families of Ground Zero victims who have criticized the TV spots.
