Category's hefty 30.6% gross margin exceeds that of the total frozen food department by a commanding 20%. Premium and super-premium segments out-perform all comers.
What ice cream marketers are screaming out loudest for these days is more supermarket shelf space from which to showcase their growing product lines. And with good reason.
Ice cream, after all, accounts for one out of every four dollars rung up on the frozen food keys of cash registers in USA stores. Not bad, considering such products take up only about 15% of the linear feet in a typical outlet.
