A year after the Gulf War, cable operators give Cable News Network high marks for tightening up its contracts with affiliate broadcasters who tap into CNN coverage for breaking news events.
That was not the case during the war, when many operators complained that cable's exclusivity - a major selling point - was threatened by broadcaster access to the news network.
In fact, many MSO executives said they think the network's broadcast affiliates, which have grown to about 260 nationwide, are actually helping to hype cable.
