WASHINGTON--While commending President Bush for proposing a health care reform plan that builds on the private system, the Health Insurance Association of America has told member companies that several aspects of the plan are "cause for great concern."
In a Feb. 6 letter, which National Underwriter obtained, HIAA President Carl J. Schramm told chief executive officers of member companies that the plan phases in "flat community rating" for health risk pools in five years.
"The pooling proposal both eliminates convention use of medical underwriting and phases in flat community rating," he said.
