Since September 11, 2001, government officials, terrorism experts, and private citizens have emphasized the importance of intelligence gathering and analysis. The goal is to make it possible for government agencies to connect the dots from seemingly random incidents to find the big picture of a possible terrorist event in time to detect and deter any plans for an attack.
