LOS ANGELES -- So far this year there have been few more high-profile and contentious issues involving mass market retailers here than the battle between the City of Inglewood and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
After local officials rejected Wal-Mart's plans to build a 60-acre shopping complex in Inglewood last year the retailer was able to take the plan directly to voters through a ballot initiative.
A vote was held on the proposal in early April, and voters rejected Wal-Mart's plan by a 60-to-40 margin.
