McALLEN, Texas -- The Rio Grande Valley is booming.
Last year Texas' Hidalgo County was the nation's 89th-largest county, with 635,540 residents, up more than 20,000 residents from the year before. The county--which includes the communities of McAllen, Mission and Edinburg--surpassed the city of Baltimore in population. Nearby Cameron County--which includes Brownsville, Harlingen and San Benito--saw its population increase by almost 10,000 to an estimated 363,092.
The Rio Grande Valley ranked among the top 10 regions in the United States in terms of job growth last year, according to a report released last year by California-based Milken Institute. ...
