The buzz surrounding WiMAX likely will attract more operators--large and small--to the broadband wireless market. With more players entering the market, some existing operators fear that unlicensed spectrum soon may become scarce. But operators in one of the most notoriously noisy markets hope to set a precedent for how other areas cope with sharing spectrum.
San Francisco Bay area wireless ISPs have banded together, forming a group called the Wireless Broadband Access Coordination Network (BANC). Members share information about the spectrum they use and work closely to avoid interfering with one another.
