GOVERNMENT scientists have advised women of childbearing age and girls not to eat more than two portions a week of oily fish, such as Scottish farmed salmon.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has recommended the limit amid concerns about industrial pollutants in the fatty flesh of the fish.
Pollutants such as dioxins and PCBs have been linked to cancer, harm to the developing baby in the womb and damage to the immune system.
The FSA's consumption advice applies particularly to pregnant women and those who are breastfeeding.
