Feb. 29--LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce got a new chairman Jan. 1 and by the end of the month he had already gone to the city to ask commissioners to take a look at Lakeland Electric.
Ford W. Heacock III, 53, a Lakeland resident who attended Clemson University, has jumped into his new chamber role with gusto. One of his first official moves was to go before the City Commission to ask commissioners to consider a study that would determine how to govern Lakeland Electric. Commissioners now control the utility.
