Feb. 19--When men's clothing trade magazine DNR featured the Legends of Menswear in a December 2002 issue, the list included Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Ike Behar.
Ike Behar? Not a household name, but one known at Neiman Marcus and among those who appreciate and can afford finely crafted men's shirts.
Behar Custom Apparel is a $30 million business that is diversifying into new lines, acquiring other shirt makers, and looking into new factories, perhaps in Peru. The business was founded in New York in 1957 but now is based in Miami Lakes. Behar has 352 employees in South Florida and in Canada.
