Feb. 2--Like a lot of college students, Ethan Everett has to buy his textbooks on the installment plan.
College texts have become so expensive that Everett, a senior in business administration at the University of Oregon, often can't afford to buy all of his books at the beginning of the term. So he buys what he can, borrows others from friends and gets the rest when he's earned enough from his part-time job to pay the hefty tab.
That's why he was in the UO Bookstore last week. He's up against a midterm in one of his classes and has no choice but to buy the book, which will add another $75 to the $205 he's already paid for ...
