Jun. 28--International Truck and Engine Corp. expects surging demand for diesels in the next few years will help it recover from its costly mistake with Ford Motor Co.
International for two decades has relied on its cash-cow Indianapolis plant to supply all the pickup truck diesels used by Ford, the largest customer for the Melrose Park, Ill.-based engine maker.
After a defect emerged two years ago in a new version of the Indianapolis diesel, a 6-liter engine Ford markets as the Power Stroke, close ties between Ford and International loosened. But engine company executives insist International isn't adrift.
