Feb. 22--DING-FREE PLASTIC PUTS DENT IN WALLET: QUESTION: With so many new cars coming out with a clean look and no bodyside moldings (the BMW 5- and 7-Series and the Acura TL are examples), why haven't these same manufacturers come out with an exterior plastic shell like the Saturn that would be resistant to dents and dings?
As attractive as these new-car designs are, it scares me not to have bodyside moldings to at least minimize the dings that are bound to happen. I, for one, would be much more interested in acquiring a car if the shell were made of this dent-resistant plastic.
