Jun. 29--The prolific and aggressive "tule" mosquito, common along the Santa Ana River in the very heart of horse country, has been identified for the first time as carrier of the West Nile virus, vector control officials reported Monday.
In addition, three of four horses with previously confirmed West Nile infections come from the Norco or Jurupa Valley areas.
Infected members of the swampland mosquito species, scientifically known as culex erythrothora, have turned up near the Santa Ana River in Mira Loma and near the Norco-Riverside border.
