Feb. 10--After more than 50 years in business, one of Spokane's few remaining vacuum cleaner dealers will close its doors this month.
Stark's Vacuum Cleaner Sales and Service owner Jack Swainson said the north Spokane shop has lost business over the years to "the throw-away economy" that encourages people to not bother repairing appliances.
"Our business used to see about 50 percent of our revenue from vacuum cleaner service," said Swainson. "Now it's about 11 percent," he said.
The business was started by Clarence Stark in 1952. Stark's moved to its current location, 18 E. Indiana Ave., in 1999.
