Next year will be the 40th anniversary of the American professional orchestra debut of a young maverick composer/conductor named Pierre Boulez, leading the Cleveland Orchestra.
No doubt, the orchestra will find a way to celebrate that occasion, but it isn't waiting till next year to show off Boulez's long-standing connection to Cleveland, in capacities ranging from principal guest conductor to music adviser.
This week, Boulez, robust at age 78, will lead the orchestra in two programs at Carnegie Hall in New York City _ one on Wednesday and the other on Thursday.
