LAWRENCE, Kan. _ Bill Self, who cut out on Illinois last spring, and Bob Knight, who was run out of Indiana four years ago, met for the first time as rival coaches Saturday.
The capacity crowd of 16,300 that came to this Type A personality symposium in historic Allen Fieldhouse went home happy after watching Self's 20th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks rout Knight's 19th-ranked Texas Tech team 96-77.
It was the first road game for Knight since Texas Tech reprimanded him earlier in the week for the verbal confrontation he had with school chancellor David Smith at a supermarket.
