Things had been relatively quiet on the Augusta National front. The debate over the club's all-male membership policy, front-page news at this time last year, had barely simmered this winter.
That is until Saturday. The calm was broken when the United States Golf Association officially installed Fred Ridley to a two-year term as its president.
Ridley, the 1975 U.S. Amateur champion, is a member of Augusta National and Pine Valley in New Jersey, another prominent club that doesn't allow women members. His affiliation with those clubs fueled the strongest round of charges from Augusta's nemesis, Martha Burk, since last year's ...
