Jan. 15--Scientists here are expanding their world-renowned cancer research systems to study the heart disease prevention regimen that was pioneered in the same building.
They already know that the holistic Ornish method can reduce the risk of contracting heart disease and diabetes, two leading causes of death in America.
Now, they want to understand exactly why it works.
"We want to know what's going on at the molecular level," said Darrell Ellsworth, director of cardiovascular disease research for the research institute. "To our knowledge, that really hasn't been done before."
