Jan. 15--Yahoo posted a robust 62 percent increase in profits for the fourth quarter, driven by its expansion into online search advertising.
Fourth-quarter profit rose to $75 million, or 11 cents a share, compared to $46.2 million, or 8 cents a share, a year earlier.
Sales for the holiday quarter more than doubled to a record $663.9 million from $285.8 million. Revenues, excluding what Yahoo pays to partner Web sites to show sponsored search results, rose 79 percent to $511.3 million.
Despite the strong results, the Sunnyvale Internet company's stock slumped nearly 4 percent in after-hours trading to $46.50. ...
