Jan. 13--A natural resources group has accused two major wind energy companies of killing thousands of birds, including protected eagles, hawks and other raptors, by sidestepping laws governing the wind turbines that dot the Altamont Pass.
In a lawsuit filed Monday in federal court, lawyers for the Center for Biological Diversity said the roughly 2,700 wind turbines there belonging to FPL Group of Florida and the Danish company NEG Micon A/S are little more than bird blenders.
One problem, said Center spokesman Jeff Miller, is that the grassy mouse habitat surrounding the Livermore windmills attract birds of prey. Birds ...
