Jan. 5--TOKYO--The Japan Railway (JR) group said Monday its six passenger railway services nationwide carried 10.36 million passengers on their Shinkansen, limited express and express trains during the New Year holidays between Dec. 26 and Jan. 4, up 1 percent from a year earlier for the fourth straight annual increase.
As for road traffic, Japan Highway Public Corp. said 3.58 million vehicles used expressways nationwide during the same period, up 5.4 percent from a year earlier.
According to the JR group, Tokaido Shinkansen bullet trains carried the second-highest number of travelers on trains leaving Tokyo on Dec. 31 and those bound for Tokyo on Jan. 4 ...
