Jun. 30--GATE DOING OVERHAUL OF RIVER CLUB: Gate Petroleum Co. intends to invest up to $3 million to renovate the 50-year-old River Club downtown and reopen the private operation in October.

Gate Vice President Jeremy Smith said this week that Jacksonville-based Gate bought the 1,300-member club on March 11 and closed it for renovations after Memorial Day.

The city approved interior demolition and is reviewing plans for a $2.5 million construction renovation of the two-story operation on the top two floors of the 35-story Modis Building on the NorthbankNorthank of the St. Johns River.
