Feb. 6--MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Crawford County farmers feeling pressured to sell to developers might soon have a new tool to help stay in business.
Crawford County Commissioners on Thursday decided to join a state program designed to preserve agricultural lands.
Crawford County, where agriculture is the number one industry with $78 million in revenues annually, becomes the 54th of the state's 67 counties to participate in the Pennsylvania Agricultural Conservation Easement Program.
Under the program, farmers can sell development rights to the county, creating an agricultural easement.
