Jun. 30--FALMOUTH, Mass. -- Chapoquoit Beach curves for more than a half-mile in West Falmouth, its ribbon of sand a side-by-side mixture of town land and privately owned shorefront. But the storm-prone waters of Buzzards Bay have crept about 100 feet closer in recent years. On the beach, an abandoned house foundation shows the retreat of man before nature.
The eroding beach will get a temporary reprieve when 100,000 cubic yards of sand are hauled here to widen the shore next winter, the result of a private-public partnership to reinforce Chapoquoit Beach. But such projects ...
