San Diego's biotech leaders kicked off last week's Biotechnology Industry Organization's conference in San Francisco with a hearty cheer.
A new study ranked San Diego's biotechnology hub No. 1 among all the biotech clusters in the nation. According to the report released at BIO 2004 by the Milken Institute, a Santa Monica-based think tank, San Diego's biotech industry is directly and indirectly responsible for 55,600 jobs and $5.8 billion (or 5.3 percent) in income.
