Rubber products molder Kitco Inc. plans to close its Bluffton plant in October, probably laying off a majority of its work force by August and the remainder when the plant shuts down.
Kitco, owned by Specialty Elastomers Technologies Inc., notified the city of its intention to close the rubber-molding facility in mid-June in a letter sent to Bluffton Mayor Ted Ellis. Kitco General Manager Chris Bradley wrote that the company will cease operations, close its plant and lay off its 157 workers between mid-August and Oct. 1.
