Winning the most viewers is no longer sufficient in television. You have to win with the right kind of viewers.
"Murder, She Wrote" delivered the important Sunday-at-8 p.m. EDT hour to CBS for years. However, the age of a substantial number of fans was Angela Lansbury-plus _ non-people as far as youth-obsessed Madison Avenue is concerned. As a result, series with half the ratings commanded double the advertising rates. But for this, "Murder, She Wrote" might still be on the air.
