NEW YORK-Speaker manufacturers have found a way to generate "surround" sound with two speakers, or even one, to appease a growing market of consumers seeking a home theater experience minus the labor-intensive install associated with front and rear speaker setup.
Pioneer was one of the first audio players on the block to experiment with single speaker surround sound via the retail launch of its PDSP-1 in the beginning of 2003. What Pioneer calls "the world's first digital sound projector" delivers 5.1 channel surround sound using a single-source speaker panel.
