District Attorney Doug Harcleroad cleared the way Wednesday to a temporary six-month retirement when the Lane County commissioners agreed that he will qualify for retiree medical benefits once he eventually retires for good.
However, the board declined to pay Harcleroad's health-care premiums for the rest of this year because he's not truly retiring. Harcleroad announced June 15 that he will retire as district attorney on June 30, then return in January and be sworn in for his sixth term in the elected position.
