The document landing in local Republican mailboxes oddly recalls a series of breath mint commercials from the 1960s:
"It's a survey! It's a fund-raiser! It's a survey and a fund-raiser - in one!"
It's really a "Census of the Republican Party," mailed by the Republican National Committee and signed by national Chairman Ed Gillespie.
A four-page cover letter explains that the recipient was picked to represent all Republicans in his or her voting district.
"Your answers will be used to develop a BLUEPRINT for the Republican Party for the next 10 years," it says.
